Return to Anawangin Cove: The Non-Vacation
I had been to Anawangin Cove only once and had a great time despite never having gone camping before. Of course the last time I was there, I was also with experienced campers, a car, a cooler, and had answers to questions like, "What's for dinner?" and "How are we going to keep the beer cold?" I was more than excited when I found out that the Hohobags, the Hohofags, plus Anne and Helga would be heading to Anawangin for the weekend. We all needed the beach but more than that, we all needed a vacation.

You'd think that the conflict of a camping story would be the man-vs-nature type but really, the problems we encountered were more like man-vs-man. Dealing with no cellphone signal and no electricity was the easy part. It was dealing with everyone else that was roughing it that took away the vacation-like quality of our vacation.

So maybe none of us have ever really gone camping before. So maybe we were only going to take a bus, and we weren't entirely sure how we were going to make dinner or keep our drinks cold. So maybe we got ditched by the very person who planned the trip. So what? How hard can it be? What kind of trouble can eight girls, two (gay) guys, and one missing mountaineer get themselves into on an isolated in the middle of nowhere?

Summertime, and the livin's easy. NOT.

The Allure of Boracay

Microtel Boracay
O hai sponsors sup?

If it were not for our lovely sponsors, I would not have spent last weekend with bloggers in Boracay. It's funny, because I've been to Boracay twice, and I don't believe I've spent more than a thousand pesos for both trips. The first time I was at Boracay, friends from Canada took care of plane fare, my hotel accommodations, and everything else I ate or drank. The plane fare and accommodations of last weekend's Blogger Boracay Trip was paid for by Seair and Microtel Boracay respectively, with dinner sponsored by Zuzuni on Saturday night. The only time I shelled out any money was when we went clubbing on Saturday night. Even then I didn't need to order too many drinks because we had some Absolut vodka beforehand, courtesy of the Microtel bar.

My life is made of awesome like that.

Zambales: Anawangin Cove
I damn near didn't go to the Zamables beach trip my friends from work were organizing. For one thing, I'd been feeling strangely lethargic and exhausted all week. Then I was told we'd be heading to a remote island with no electricity, running water, or anything that's been invented after the 1800s, and that we'd be sleeping in tents. I'm not sure what exactly it was that convinced me to go but whatever it is, I'm glad I stopped being such a pussy. This beach trip was quite an experience.

Boracay
Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t have chosen to spend my last days of unemployment at Boracay. It’s just like how I swore that I would never set a foot inside Embassy; I’m too fucking cool and non-conformist to go to where the rich and famous party. But from the moment I emerged from my final final exams, I knew that this wouldn’t be a normal summer and I’m glad that this was how I chose to end it.

Malaysia

Too lazy again to copy and paste what I've been up to. Just read my public blog if you care to know about the Asian adventures of Nic and me. Pictures in Malaysia are here and more pictures of Singapore here (actually I just added some more pictures of the park + a very hohobag photo of me at The House of Condoms).

I'm heading back to Manila at midnight tomorrow. Boooooooo. I miss everyone like hell already but I'd really hate to leave, not so much because I love this place as the fact that once I return, I've got to go job-hunting. All my friends have been going from job interview to job interview and here I am, burning money in a foreign city. I'm pretty sure that with my fancy-schmancy diploma, I can land a reputable job without too much difficulty. But it's the search that's really getting to me and the fact that I have to market myself and present myself so that I look employable. It's almost like prostitution.

But bleh, now's not the time for such depressing thoughts! As soon as Nic hops out of the shower, we're gonna explore this city once more. Also, I'm meeeting up IAM:ba|dwin this afternoon to get my VCH. If you don't know what that is, I suggest that you Google it. I'm not about to tell you myself. :)

On a sidenote, I had a rather interesting dream last night. It was the zombie apocalypse and all my friends turned into zombies, which meant I had to blast their heads off with a shotgun if I wanted to survive. At 5 am I woke up with a massive hangover, which really surprised me since I haven't had one of those in ages, even during the March hardcore drinking days. Screw Tiger--Baron's beer is teh shiznit. I shall try to smuggle a can or two when I return (especially since cigarettes in Malaysia were a lot more expensive than I thought!). :)
